This site is a set of pages to read, with no accounts, no comments and no advertising. We use Google Analytics to see aggregate traffic — how many visits, from which regions, to which pages — and it stores measurement cookies in your browser. Apart from that, the outside services your browser contacts are Google's font service and our host, and you can block the Google ones. Everything below is a longer version of this paragraph.

What this site does not do

  • No cookies of our own. The only cookies on this site are the measurement cookies set by Google Analytics (listed in the table below). We set none for preferences or anything else.
  • Analytics in aggregate only. We look at Google Analytics summary reports — visit counts, regions, page views. We do not use them to single out who is reading.
  • No accounts. Nothing to register for, so no email address, password or profile exists to be leaked.
  • Nothing kept in your browser. The tools on this site do not save anything on your device. Reload the page and whatever you typed is gone.
  • No other outside code. Apart from the Google Analytics tag, everything that runs on these pages comes from this site itself.

The outside services your browser does connect to

Three outside services see a connection from your browser when you open a page here.

Third parties involved in serving this site
WhoWhyWhat they can see
Our hosting provider Delivers the pages to your browser, keeps the site reachable and filters out abusive traffic. The usual basics any website host sees: your IP address, which page you opened, when, and which browser you used. We do not receive per-visitor reports from it and do not go looking.
Google Analytics Counts visits in aggregate: how many, from which regions, to which pages. Your IP address, browser and device details, which pages you open and for how long. It stores measurement cookies (usually named starting with _ga) in your browser.
Google Fonts The typeface used for headings is loaded from Google's font service. Your IP address and which browser you use, as with any website you visit. Google states that font requests are not used to build advertising profiles; you do not have to take our word or theirs for it.

If connecting to Google's services bothers you, block googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com (analytics) and fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com (fonts) in your browser or a privacy extension. Your visit simply goes uncounted and the text switches to a font already on your device; nothing breaks and nothing disappears.

The tools run on your machine

Every calculator and checker here does its work on your own device, inside your browser. Numbers you type, addresses you paste and options you pick are never sent anywhere — there is nowhere for them to go.

That is a design choice rather than a promise you have to accept: it is also the reason none of the tools can offer live data. If a page here claimed real-time rates, it would be lying about this section.

Once you click through to an exchange

Links to exchanges leave this site. From that moment their privacy policy applies, not ours, and we have no visibility into what you do there.

Sign-up links on this site carry a referral parameter. It tells the exchange which referrer to attribute a new account to. It does not identify you to us, and we never receive personal data about anyone who signs up — the reporting we see is aggregate. The commercial side of that arrangement is explained on the disclosure page.

Your rights

Rights of access, correction, deletion and portability apply to personal data a site holds. We hold no data that identifies you ourselves; analytics data sits with Google Analytics and reaches us only as aggregate reports, so in practice there is nothing on our side to hand over or erase. If you believe otherwise, or you want the question answered in writing, email [email protected] and we will respond.

Our hosting provider keeps its usual access records for as long as its own policy says, and we have no control over that beyond the settings it offers. We do not export them, do not join them to anything, and do not use them to profile readers.

You can check all of this yourself

Nothing on this page needs to be taken on trust. Most browsers let you see which sites a page connects to and whether it has stored any cookies. If you check a page here, you should find only this site and Google's analytics and font services, and no cookies other than the Google Analytics ones. If you find something that contradicts this page, that is a mistake on our side and we want to hear about it.

Changes to this page

If we ever add anything that changes the picture above — a third-party service, any form of measurement — this page gets updated first and the change is logged on the corrections page. We are not going to quietly add tracking and leave a stale privacy page up.
